For merchandise information:
You might be accustomed to the frustrations of trying to obtain Moby's releases in typical pop music stores. Too often, such places only have the most major releases, and sometimes nothing at all. Fortunately, the Internet is somewhat friendlier to people with varied musical tastes. Try shopping at some of these online music stores.
Auction sites let private parties easily auction items. Often, you can find good deals on widely-available albums. But more importantly, people frequently offer rare items that are practically impossible to find elsewhere. Promos, posters, and out-of-print items are not uncommon. Don't be surprised if bidding wars make prices skyrocket.
eBay is the most popular online auction site, and the only one that I have dealt with. It employs a user feedback system that lets buyers and sellers rate each other, enabling you to avoid bad apples. Keep in mind that when you search for Moby stuff, other items not pertaining to the musician Moby will probably be in the list.
If you can't find what you want in music stores, perhaps you can obtain it from a private party. The following Usenet newsgroups are ideal forums for buying and selling rare & collectable items, including promos. Many regular releases are also available used at bargain prices.
If for example you would like some Moby promos, first scan the appropriate newsgroup(s) to see if someone is currently offering them for sale. If not, then post a message with the subject WTB: Moby promos. "WTB" means "want to buy". Describe what you want in further detail in the message body. Then wait and hope for email responses from potential sellers. I've obtained some of my most prized Moby gems in this manner.
Also check alt.music.techno and alt.music.moby for private sellers.
